Tips on using natural medicines

Interactions
Natural medicines can have similar actions as pharmaceutical medications. It is important that you understand how they may interact with other prescription medications you are taking. Naturopathic doctors are specially trained in understanding these interactions and can offer you suggestions on how to accommodate the medications you currently take.

Quality
Due to the growing popularity of natural medicine, there is an increasingly wide range of products available to the public. Many of these products contain fillers, chemical solvent residues and are contaminated with yeast or mold.

Fortunately, there are a number of labs that independently test for the effectiveness and purity of their formulations. For your convenience, Remède Naturopathics provides natural medicines from the best of these labs, since many of them do not supply to health food stores or pharmacies.

remède in-clinic therapies

Hydrotherapy
Our clinic offers hydrotherapy techniques that assist your body in recovering from acute and chronic illness by bringing systems back into balance. Hydrotherapy is often recommended as a supportive therapy: the physiological effects can greatly increase your body's response to botanical medicines, special diets, homeopathy, and nutritional supplementation.

Far-Infrared Sauna
Infrared sauna therapy has been the subject of much research and is one of the most advanced naturopathic techniques for detoxification. Promoting health in a wide variety of conditions through detoxification is a great way to keep yourself well. There is substantial literature that suggests that there is a connection between barriers to the body's natural detoxification process and chronic diseases, including ADHD, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and multiple chemical sensitivities.

For this therapy, you'll have our peaceful sauna room all to yourself and there is a private, in-room shower for your use following your session. Unlike traditional steam saunas, where the air becomes super-heated, making it difficult to tolerate for extended periods, our infrared sauna allows you to relax comfortably and feel the benefits of extended periods of raised body temperature.

Classical Chinese Medicine
Rooted in Taoist philosophy, Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) is an ancient healing system derived from thousands of years of observation, investigation, and clinical experience. It is a truly holistic system that sees the body-mind processes as an integrated whole.

CCM views the environment, a person's mental-emotional state, diet, and lifestyle as equally important factors in a person's well-being. When balanced, these lead to harmony and a healthy existence.

CCM modalities include acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping and gua-sha, and herbal medicine, all of which are means of promoting and maintaining health within the body. A preventive system, it detects imbalances before they manifest fully as disease, boosts immunity, reduces stress, improves sleep quality, and creates emotional balance.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a form of Classical Chinese Medicine that focuses on balancing the body's energy, called qi (pronounced "chee"). When the flow of qi is disturbed, disharmony and illness can occur. The insertion of fine, hair-thin needles redirect and balance the movement of energy, resulting in a clinically therapeutic effect that restores harmony to mind, body, and spirit.

Moxibustion
A warming therapy, moxibustion involves burning of moxa, known in Western medicine as artimesia, for therapeutic effects. Frequently used in CCM for arthritis, lower back pain, and tight muscles, this modality eases pain and increases circulation in injured areas of the body.

Cupping & Gua-Sha
Localized treatments that increase blood flow to injured or oxygen-deficient areas, these modalities are extremely useful for sports injuries and muscle tension. They can be used to strengthen the body's immunity or release pathological heat or toxicity.

Microcurrent
Gentle electrical stimulation (or micro-currents) is frequently used in physical therapy and acupuncture to relieve chronic pain and speed healing. Often used for acute sports injury, lower back pain, sciatica, post-herpetic neuralgia, and nausea after chemotherapy, acupuncture needles are gently stimulated, through clips attached to the needles. This therapy can also be used in conjunction with auricular (ear) acupuncture for treating addiction.

Chinese Herbal Medicine
The use of herbal formulas is an important component of CCM. The combination of acupuncture and herbs is more powerful than either modality alone for managing various conditions in the body.

Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is one of the most ancient and venerable healing arts. Recent studies show that human touch is crucial to physical, psychological, and emotional development and well-being. We simply cannot have wellness in our lives without positive touch, a fact that can be overlooked in our often chaotic lives.

swedish massage
When most people think of massage, they are thinking of Swedish massage. This is the classic western massage technique which combines kneading, long smooth strokes and stretching to improve circulation and to relax and loosen muscles. The pressure and intensity of the massage strokes are determined by the client's preference.

Swedish massage can be enjoyed by most everyone, including those with chronic medical conditions and injuries. Benefits of Swedish massage can include stress and pain reduction, improved sleep, improved flexibility, enhanced immune system function, and improved mood.

prenatal massage
Prenatal massage focuses on the health and well-being of the expectant mother and baby and is tailored to the specific needs of the mother's ever-changing body. It reduces stress hormones in the body, relaxes the muscles and allows for gentle nurturing of both mother and baby.

Massage can improve many common conditions related to pregnancy, including joint stress, swelling, muscle tightness and imbalance, fatigue and sciatic pain. Massage can also help to prepare the body both physically and emotionally for childbirth. Working with the massage therapist, prenatal massage sessions are tailored to each mother's individual preferences and needs.

postpartum massage
Postpartum massage addresses both the body's physical changes from pregnancy and birth as well as the physical challenges of caring for a newborn.

Postpartum massage can help to restore the body to its pre-pregnancy condition by restoring the abdomen, by rebalancing postural muscles and movement patterns and by improving post-surgical recovery after Cesarean births. It also helps to relieve stress and fatigue and provides support and nurturing to the new mother.

reflexology
Treat yourself to the ultimate foot and hand massage.

Foot and hand reflexology is a scientific art based on the premise that there are zone and reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all body parts. Our highly trained therapists apply varying types and degrees of pressure to these zones, reducing stress and causing a physiological change in the body.

therapies from remède's natural pharmacy
Phytotherapy
Phytotherapy, also referred to as botanical medicine, is the application of the therapeutic properties of plants. Plants have a wide range of documented healing properties, including the ability to balance hormones, decrease blood pressure, stimulate the immune system and regulate the nervous system.

At Remède Naturopathics, we use only the highest quality organic plant products, sourcing our plants from all over the world. We make use of both Eastern and Western botanical medicine philosophies and have the ability to create formulations in our dispensary to provide a combination of herbs that is just right for you.

Clinical Nutrition
The clinical use of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and specialized diets can be a powerful tool for addressing specific health concerns. An important part of clinical nutrition involves a review of your diet, taking into consideration your digestive strength, health condition, and lifestyle. Your diet will be assessed from both a biochemical standpoint and an Asian medicine perspective, looking at the balance of your Yin and Yang and your Qi.

At Remède, we want to be sure you have access to the highest quality supplements available. Our dispensary stocks only professional lines of nutritional supplements, tested for the highest standards of purity and effectiveness.

Homeopathy and European Biological Medicine
Homeopathic remedies are dynamic and powerful medicines. They have a remarkable ability to trigger your body's own healing mechanisms. Selected based on the unique way that you experience illness, these remedies act to stimulate the healing ability of your body in profound and lasting ways.

European biological medicine is a system of combining homeopathic remedies, creating formulas that focus on restoring the body's terrain, modulating the acid base balance of the blood, strengthening organs, and enhancing detoxification.
